Online Topic Workshops
About
Summer institutes are a great way for individuals to prepare for the upcoming season. When pairing institute learning with intense topic preparation, students get a jump start on understanding the nuances of a resolution and are more prepared for competition. Unfortunately, summer institute experiences are not always available to students due to schedule conflicts, cost, location, and more. The NSDA is working with top instructors from the summer institute community to ensure that individuals who do not go to camps can get the maximum level of instruction in two days, but also, to create an opportunity for extended learning by students who did attend camp.
Be sure to reserve your spot by August 4, 2017!
The Online Institute is an affordable and convenient enrichment opportunity for student debaters. Save the expense of traveling to camps by participating online!

PF Online Topic Workshop
PF Curriculum
The curriculum will focus on the September/October topic that will be announced on August 8, 2017. This camp is a must-attend for any student competing in PF in September and October. During the camp, the best instructors across the country will ensure students are equipped with:
- the most up to date and ground breaking discussions on key terms on the resolution
- innovative, well-researched, and well-reasoned topic discussions about pro and con ground and resolution burdens
- one-on-one feedback on arguments and speaking
- exclusive skill development drills
These instructors will be prepared for an intensive two-day workshop having spent time at institutes on the topic area. As a result, once the topic is announced, they can take what they learned and target the instruction to maximize value. You directly benefit from their previous work during the summer!
PF Staff
This summer, we are thrilled that Stefan Bauschard, Jenny Cook, Andrew Dolberg, Jeffrey Miller, Martin Page, and Chase Williams will serve as curriculum coordinators. Additionally, Abraham Fraifeld will guest lecture for the online experience. Collectively, the individuals supporting the online institute represent some of the top summer institutes available to students and decades of coaching, classroom, and institute experience.
LD Online Topic Workshop
LD Curriculum
The curriculum will focus on the September/October topic that will be announced on August 8, 2017. At the conclusion of the institute experience, students will be equipped with:
- the most up-to-date and ground breaking discussions on key terms on the resolution
- innovative, well-researched, and well-reasoned topic discussions about affirmative and negative ground and resolution burdens
- an understanding of important framework issues to consider
- an extensive bibliography to jump start their research on the topic
Students will leave with a sound foundation on the topic that enables case writing and blocks. Overall skills regarding strategy will be covered and specific examples will be used to make the content relevant to the September/October topic. Students will be introduced to drills they can do on their own to further their skill development after the online institute. The session will focus on the September/October topic, not the topic designated for novices.
LD Staff
This summer, we are excited that Kris Wright will serve as the LD curriculum coordinator. Kris will line up a slate of guest lecturers to join him for the online institute. Kris is one of the most sought after debate coaches in the country, having designed and directed curriculum for 10 summers at the most elite LD camps. During the year, Kris has coached students to win the Texas state championship and to reach elimination rounds at the Tournament of Champions and the National Speech & Debate Tournament in both LD and Policy Debate.
Scholarships
Full and partial scholarships are available for those who demonstrate need. Priority will be given to those who have not been to a summer institute in the past due to financial constraints. Requests for financial aid are due by July 1. Announcements about aid will be finalized by July 15. We will make decisions on a rolling basis, so apply early to find out sooner than July 15.
