NSDA Belonging & Inclusion Station Intake Form
Welcome to the Belonging and Inclusion Station
The NSDA proudly serves a diverse community. We value all our members and take seriously the responsibility of providing a tournament experience where everyone feels heard, included, and safe. To that end, the Belonging and Inclusion Station (BIS) seeks to provide interpersonal support to anyone who feels excluded by an element of the tournament and safeguards against violations of the NSDA Harassment and Discrimination Policy. Guided by the principles of teaching, learning, and healing, the BIS seeks to address concerns through dialogue and educational moments—while reserving corrective measures for instances in which education cannot resolve an issue.
What to Expect from the BIS
Any person with a concern about exclusion, harassment, or discrimination may seek assistance from the BIS. They can also seek support from the BIS through this intake form if they are looking for someone to listen and help process frustrating or upsetting situations, like losing a round or watching an emotionally impactful performance. Students are always welcome to stop by the BIS for high-fives or encouragement before rounds! (Note to Students: when you arrive at the BIS, we will work to provide you with the appropriate adult support person(s)).
Once you complete this form, you will meet with a Belonging and Inclusion Advocate (BIA) -- a trained tournament staff member -- who will provide interpersonal support and conduct an initial assessment to determine if your concern requires additional interpersonal support or an inquiry, which may include collecting information from people involved in the concern, providing education and mentorship to the person for whom the intake form was submitted, or recommending corrective action if education cannot resolve an issue. BIAs will keep the information disclosed private to the extent reasonable and consistent with their duties. BIAs are required to notify appropriate authorities if presented with a concern involving:
- behavior that presents a danger to tournament attendees;
- known or suspected child abuse, maltreatment, or neglect;
- known or suspected sexual violence; and
- any other conduct subject to mandatory reporting laws.
